Le Nouvel Hotel Lobby

The lobby is more than a point of arrival—it is the first impression of a hotel and the space that shapes every guest's experience. For the renovation of Le Nouvel Hotel in downtown Montreal, our objective was to transform the existing lobby into a refined, contemporary environment that immediately conveys comfort, sophistication, and warmth while reflecting the hotel's renewed identity.

Rather than creating a purely decorative space, the design focuses on how guests move, gather, and relax throughout the day. The result is an inviting lobby that seamlessly functions as a welcoming reception, a casual meeting space, a communal work area, and a comfortable gathering place for both individual guests and group check-ins.

The redesigned reception area establishes a strong visual identity through clean architectural lines and carefully selected natural materials. A dramatic marble reception desk becomes the focal point upon arrival, complemented by rich walnut paneling and a custom feature wall that subtly frames the hotel's branding.

Warm integrated lighting softens the space and enhances the natural textures, creating a welcoming atmosphere that feels elegant without being overstated.

Beyond the reception, the lobby unfolds into a series of intimate seating areas that encourage guests to linger rather than simply pass through. Comfortable lounge furniture, layered lighting, and thoughtfully curated décor create a residential ambiance while maintaining the functionality expected of a modern hotel.

A custom media wall featuring illuminated shelving, a linear fireplace, and integrated display niches provides a natural gathering point, allowing the lobby to comfortably accommodate both social interaction and quiet moments throughout the day.

The material palette balances warmth with sophistication. Walnut wood, natural stone, textured wall finishes, and soft upholstery establish a timeless foundation, while deep blue accents introduce richness and subtle contrast inspired by the hotel's visual identity.

Decorative lighting, curated accessories, and carefully considered artwork add character without overwhelming the architecture, resulting in interiors that feel calm, welcoming, and enduring.

Every design decision was guided by the desire to elevate the guest journey—from the moment visitors enter the hotel to the time they settle into the lounge before exploring Montreal or returning to their rooms.

The renovated lobby reflects the evolving expectations of today's travelers, who increasingly value thoughtfully designed spaces that combine comfort, functionality, and a strong sense of place. By creating a welcoming environment with timeless materials and carefully integrated details, the project gives Le Nouvel Hotel a contemporary identity while offering guests an experience that feels both refined and effortlessly inviting.
