Deluxe King Room - Chateau Versailles

     Nestled within one of Montreal’s most storied heritage properties, the Deluxe King Room renovation at Château Versailles reimagines historic hospitality through a contemporary lens. Located within a collection of four interconnected Victorian townhouses on Sherbrooke Street West, the project draws inspiration from the building’s rich architectural legacy while elevating the guest experience for modern travelers.

Originally developed in the early 20th century by architect and art collector James Seath-Smith, Château Versailles is defined by its remarkable craftsmanship, ornate detailing, and layered history. The renovation sought to preserve this sense of timeless elegance while introducing the comfort, functionality, and refinement expected from today’s boutique hotels.

The guest room was conceived as a calm urban retreat, balancing elegance and comfort. A custom upholstered king bed anchors the space, framed by integrated wall mouldings and warm brass sconces that create a soft, welcoming ambiance.

Large windows overlooking Sherbrooke Street flood the room with natural light during the day, while custom blackout drapery creates the ideal environment for a comfortable night’s sleep. A built-in window bench transforms an architectural feature into a functional guest amenity, offering a place to relax, read, or take in views of downtown Montreal.

Rich walnut furnishings add depth and sophistication, creating a subtle contrast against the light architectural envelope. Every piece was selected to support the hotel's refined residential character rather than a conventional hospitality aesthetic.

Every square foot was carefully considered to maximize guest comfort. The custom writing desk serves equally well as a workspace or vanity, reflecting the evolving needs of contemporary travelers.

 A dedicated wardrobe niche, accented with decorative wallpaper, introduces a layer of personality and boutique charm while maintaining an efficient room layout. Full-height mirrors enhance the perception of space and light, contributing to the room’s open and airy atmosphere.

  The ensuite bathroom continues the balance between classic elegance and modern simplicity. Marble-look porcelain surfaces, frameless glass shower enclosures, and custom millwork create a timeless palette that feels both luxurious and approachable.

    The renovation reflects a growing shift in boutique hotel design, where guests increasingly seek authentic experiences, residential comfort, and a meaningful connection to place. Rather than competing with the building’s history, the design enhances it, allowing architecture and storytelling to become part of the guest experience.
